Is it just me or does anyone else have difficulty getting propagation spots accepted by the OH2BUA cluster. At least half of the messages I post never appear including one last night concerning an aurora warning.73.

Joe, NA3T, made a map which shows the density of 6m-activity in the northern hemisphere. The map is based on Joe's AZ_PROJ and my list of 50MHz-stations. The URL is: www.qth.net/az/qra_6m_density.gif . Any suggestions/additions are very welcome!

3C5 Equatorial Guinea.......I’VE RECEIVED MY 3C5 LICENSE AT LAST!! After several months, 20 visits to the authorities and $450. Look for 3C1I on 6 m from now on. I’m living in Malabo in Equatorial Guinea (JJ43JR) and will be operating mainly 6 and 10m. I have local TV on 48.250 video from 1500 to 2300Z most days, so I cannot operate in this time period. Look for a beacon going most of the time when I’m not on the air, otherwise I will be on 50.110. The 6m equipment is TS680S and 100 watts into a 4 el quad at 30 ft with a good takeoff. 10m seems to be open all afternoon and most evenings to ZS so I’ll certainly be looking south very closely on 6m. I can be reached in the office weekdays from 0700-1600 Z at either OAISAACH@DAL.MOBIL.COM or on a direct line through Dallas on (214)905.4805. I have not figured out QSLs yet but they can come to me direct for the moment : Alan Isaachsen, PO Box 650232, Dallas, TX 75248, USA.

I spoke with Dan KH2JU today on HF and he tells me that only him KH2D Jim and KH0AC are active from Guam and saipan on 6M. KG6DX has gone back to the USA possibly for good. Dan has an FT690 and 5 el cushcraft yagi and I passed along all the VK/ZL /SEA/BY video carriers to him today which he is putting in a scanning receiver. Activity in the Pacific is at an all time low. Also US service men in Korea will be issued with KL9 calls and all prefixes from KL0 through 9 have been issued in Alaska so it is possible to work a KL0, KL1 etc on 6M 73 de Steve VK3OT/KL7/AA

I agree that many dxcc credits do not appear to conform with the somewhat arbitrary rulings of the dxcc desk. And many of us have credits for countries that formally at least did not permit 6M operations. And then there is the technical opinion that any 50 Mhz QSO's made between Jan 1964 and July 1989 in VK do not count as legal QSO's. Enough said.
Steve KL7/VK3OT
- Tuesday, January 20, 1998 at 19:17:15 (GMT)

I have recently submitted QSLs to the DXCC desk and was denied credit for the 7X/FC1EAN operation in 1989. On querying this I received the following in writing from Bill Moore NC1L, Century Club Supervisor, "Regarding 7X/FC1EAN we do not have any documentation from the operator to get that operation approved. We need this documentation on all portable 7X operations". In a subsequent phone conversation he indicated that from time to time the DXCC data base is checked for stations that have subsequently been judged to be outside DXCC rules. They do not inform DXCC holders already credited with that country they just delete the credit from their data base, however they do not ask for the return of a DXCC certificate if deletions take you below 100! Apparently many of the past 50 MHz Spanish operations by non permit holders have been treated in this way. Well we all know the controversy surrounding several European operations in territories where 50 MHz is still not authorised, lets hope our credits don't start going rapidly negative!! 73s Dave

But The NARG with The Radiosport Federation of Azerbaijan planing a DXpediton in Azerbaijan wich dedicate The Independent date of Azerbaijan. The NARG sent a request to Ministry of Communication of Azerbaijan and waiting for lisence on 50 mhz. Ive given up radio waves for air waves and went flying on Friday. From above KL7 looks a bit like VK8 except the white lakes are not salt but ice. Also airspeed indicators are calibrated in MPH not KNOTS which is a bit of a worry as you are flying slower than normally indicated. I may go aero mobile on 6M with IC706. Its like driving on RHS road, all it takes is time and nerve, otherwise just shut your eyes. See you all at Sandown nexy month? Steve

Re PY5CC Congratulations ypu have worked all 7 continents in Cycle 23! 15/1/98: BIG NEWS FROM PY5CC! 14/Jan/98 at 2150z I work LU1ZC in Decepcion Island in Antarctica on 50.105 SSB. We had a very nice Es opening starting around 2000z with CX stations and than with LU stations in Buenos Aires area. At 2138z i Work LU9AEA/X in Patagonia Area, FE60 Grid (San Julian city). He was Mobil with S9+ signal. I find LU1ZC, Hector on the Cluster working stations on 20 meters in 14.178 MHZ and we try on 6 M. His signal was 51 to 52 , and he gave me 59. Hector say, im working with a wire antenna but for the next days i will put up a direcional. He will be on Deception island until end of February. What a pleasure to work a new Country, new Field, and new continent. I think his Locator is FC97 according to the co-ordinates that i find in my World Atlas. ( 62,57s  60,38w ) Anybody know any contact before with Antarctica ? Best regards and good Luck with LU1ZC......PETER   PY5CC Yes Peter VK0AQ was contacted by VK3OT/VK3LK and VK5NC in November 1993 for world first QSO to Antarctica. AURORAL RADAR best monitored in AM mode max s/s 49.635 is wide band and very powerful emmision. Returns may be viewed on the University of Alaska, pages, Ill find the url and post it here. HF has been very poor max MUF 15 Mhz, radio Australia badly QSB even with 100kW erp. 10M no go. But 6M is a possibility as it NEVER follows HF trends. The only way you will know if it opens to KL7 is if you monitor the signs and let us know asap. KL7FZ and I are scanning 46.172 et al during daylight hours and will respond to any call. NB even though 50.110 is the International Call Channel 50.125 is continually montored up here and used for local QSOs. You should as a matter of course call on 50.125 Mhz if you suspect an opening. A new year has started with an anticipation for fully-technical season preceding a peak of the solar cycle. JH7DHS, who is a local coordinator of JA7ZMA Fukushima beacon (50.027 and 28.188 MHz), reports that its 6m beacon is now stops due to the fault of its transmitter. He went to the beacon site and found one of two cooling fans stops and main 15A fuse is blowout. The equipment will be sent to my work bench by freight. The 10m side (28.188) is still alive. Remaining JR6YAG (50.032), JA1ZYK (50.023), JA2IGY (50.010) and other JA beacons should be applied. 73!

The reason why i would put your List on my Site is, that i have the first World Wide HAM-RADIO E-MAil List in DL. I think that this is also a way to make your Site popular in DL. Deja Vu. Dont want to be a smart alec about ZL to W QSO's but told you so. Same as in Jan 01/02 1989 and in my humble opinion we are in same place of rise in 23 as we were 22 after the large JA opening in October 1988 which equated to the large JA opening in Nov 1997. So which of the EU boys wants to continue to assert that because no 46 TV is being heard that there is no VK/EU path. When VK1RX reported Italian TV on 24/11 no one took him seriously. Same as no one took OH1VR and I seriously in 1988. So as I said, who wants to be the brave one to predict where we are? Lynn KL7IKV handed me the solar map the day I arrived and we had a huge aauroral display, down to the ground in Steve Tolleys words, so the first thing i did was email Mike ZL3TIC to be on standby, and he was and worked all the W5's and W7CI. Hi Mike VE9AA. Steve Tolley has kindly offered some tubing so I will be able to erect some sort of array in next few days. The temps as you know make it hard to hold metal but I managed to hang a brand new 40/80 radio works windom off the eaves 3 storeys up and between the spruce trees and it is hearing well to JA on 21 Mhz today in daylight so if 28 Mhz is a goer I may be able to liase with you. Do you have my number? see below VVVVVV several days back. Steve heard VE8 stuff I think and we had a brilliant AU the night we flew in. Let me know your HF frequencies for a chat. We are Mountain time minus 1 hour or UTC plus 3 less one day Last night it was minus 32 is that normal? If it were nromal we wouldnt be here right? Re VK0YQS guys to whom it may concern. I only have 9YQS cards port zero dont know about this current one of Dougs so please QSL to VK3YQS QTHR. I cannot respond to any VK0YQS cards unless requested and provision is made. DATA BASE First UPDATE. KTUU TV Anchorage is 55.23990 with warble, Grid is BP51 I think and 67 kW erirp. Distinct NTSC 60 Hz frame buzz and intermittent FSK on carrier. Steve is hoping to have a significant station on from here come summer. 73 and Happy New year from the frozen North.
