Dear Om/YL, The last storm , which we had here in kp25gr,
destroed my six meter yagi. Repairing needs the time and I think
i am qrt at least next three weeks on six... but my two meters

Today the YM7PA team phoned me and gave me the latest
results: Over 1000 QSO's and 4 new DXCC countries (status

brings the total at 44 DXCC countries so far. Some European
countries are still not worked by YM7PA: CT, GU, LA, EI, OY, TF.
During a long opening to PA this morning, I managed to work YM7PA
from my home station (at last) with strong signals (txs PA3DOL
who called me to wake me up). Just by coincidence (REALLY) it was
QS0 #1000. The bottle of champagne that the crew reserved for
this occasion will be opened tonight (07:22 is a bit early, even
for hard core expeditioners). Cheers boys, I will have a beer in
my own shack. YM7PA will remain QRV until Monday July 21st 14:00

After a very quiet morning the band opened to EU around
1820 with G3HBA the first worked. The opening ended at 2007 with
S53VV. DX worked: G, GJ, F, OZ, ON, PA, DL, SP, YU1, S5, SM. Most
signals were weak so please excuse my QRZ or confusion at times.
The best QSO was probably SP6ASD who said I was his first North
America. Still looking for OH, LY ,YL or ES on these mostly
northern EU openings. Rig hr is 1100W to either 8el yagi at 21M
or a 16el collinear fixed on EU on another tower. The collinear
is 10M tall and is sidemounted on the tower between the 20 and
30M levels. RX is via a DEM xvtr into a modified TS-940S. System
MDS on CW is -152dBM but band noise and QRN is often the limiting

During a short opening on the 16th, W5VY EL09 was hrd for
2min in JN58 on 50.110MHz. His signal was 539, but he couldn't
read my CW. Distance is abt. 8900km! Further worked were W4's in
EM85,FM07,17 and N2 in EM84. 73, Max.

I thought FOR SURE tonight would be the night for tf/pa3dwd
but nothing heard from him unfortunately. WE had many many hours
of XATL Es to ve8- ve4- gi- gm- g -f -, All EU video carriers,
etc. but did not hear tf/pa3dwd. I (and others) were calling all
day/night. Guess it will wait until next year :-(((( also
Enno/pa0era had a vfb signal on 10m cw today at 2130z, but he did

News from the YM7PA expedition I just returned from TA
after two weeks. Our first day in Turkey was used for finding a
good QTH. Well, we found one: Carsibasi, a small village on the
black sea coast about 40 km west of Trabzon. The exact locator is
KN91QC. The house from where YM7PA operates is a 4 storey high
building with a flat roof. The antenna is at 25 meters ASL. The
house is more or less built on the beach, just 3 meters away from
the water. So absolutely no obstacles and little QRM from the
direction of Europe, North America. Also Japan is free. YM7PA
made so far 655 QSO's into 37 countries: S5, PA, DL, OK, I, 9A,
OE, ON, G, SP, YO, F, OZ, SM, HB9, EH6, CT3, YU, LZ, EH, SV, Z3,
UR, ES, ZA, RA, GW, 4X, GD, GM, VE, EU, YL, OM, GI, GJ, T9. We do
not have any information if any of these countries are 'firsts'.
Is there anyone who can help us? As you can see we are still
missing GU, OH, IS0, EH9, CT, EI. YM7PA will remain QRV until
next July 21st. The operating frequency is changed to 50.118 MHZ
due to QRM. The team will turn the beam to NE every now and then.

Hello to all, on 11 july at 0413 utc, i had 57.250 TV from
PORT PIRIE in VK% at s9 on winter Es, called on CW but no qso, at
least i heard something!!. Temp in perth this week down to 0.@
degrees celsius and ice on the car in the morning. cheers Graham

Re the reports of EME QSO's with VK, please note the
following licencing situation. Power levels 400 watts pep SSB,
120 watts CW o/p or 150 watts CW input. If you can work EMRE with
that good luck. There are no high power permits in force and non
are being granted. The last high power permit expired in Dec
1995. The Australian Broadcast Authority and the National
Transmissions agencies administer the 50 to 52 Mhz spectrum. It
is a secondary amateur band allocated to the broadcast service
and strict power leves are in force. Although the EME QSO took
place froma location remote from TV stations the laws apply there
just like everywhere. The general feeling is that is these QSO's
are not checked we will suffer irrepairable harm and could lose
the use of 50 Mhz. If anyone wishes to confirm these feelings,
please contact the WIA Federal Technical Advisory Committee in
Melbourne Australia. In the mean time amateurs are requested not
to attempt to work VK on EME. Until such time as High Power
permits again become legal.

from VE9AA: By now you are all well aware that the 6m band
has come alive during the last 24hours. It all started last night
around 0153z when I was working on the recent cy9aa logs. I
checked the Internet to take a short break and saw that ve2th was
spotted by ve6xt. "What was this" I said? I turned the
rig on to find ve5uf/Doug calling CQ ! I worked him for my last
province, needing only vy1 to finish all of Mainland USA/Canada.
As the hours wore by, I went on to hear and/or work
ve1,2,3,4,5,6, & 7. There was a short time around 0230z or so
that I was copying them all simultaneously ! What a rare treat!
(Also worked were a few north western w7 ops.) I found out just
at the start of the opening that our regional director for RAC NB
section, VE9IW/John had just passed away. What a better send off
than to open up 6m Canadawide? RIP John. Just a few hours later,
I was jump-started awake by the sound of Doug/ve1pz (of recent
cy9aa 'fame') working a few SP's in Poland on 6m. From about
1015Z until 1431z I had in-band prop to EU. (ve1pz had it a lot
lot longer) I had video in the 49Mhz range for hours, and weaker
48Mhz stuff from time to time. Total QSO count for the day was
dismal, but no less exciting as it was my first Transatlantic
propagation of the whole summer, (had a partial with eh8acw on
June 8th @ 1335, but not counting that one) Most signals I heard
working ve1pz or that I worked were literally of EME/ESP quality,
with only dl2gbt actually nudging the s-meter at one point. Log
for the day: sr6six/b - a lot louder than all the SP's and in for
a lot longer-(details on this unit?) pa3fbn, dl3dxx, dl2dxa,
pa3gml, pa3fym, pa0cor, pa0jmh, dl2gbt, dl9?y, eh7ah, on4ant,
eh7kw, cs1asp/b, fp5xab/b...... Equipment here: ic736, sb200@
325watts (took a beating on cy9), hardline, 5 el/k6sti design on
a 24' boom, @ 66', I am at 30' ASL in a swamp land, loc. fn65rr I
think Doug ended up with a couple of new ones and around 92 Q's
but I will let him tell HIS story, as it's bound to be a lot more
exciting. I noted many calling tf/pa3dwd and/or ym7pa, on
50.123MHz and heard one or the other quite briefly, but no QSO,
and I couldn't swear which Dxpedition it was other than I know
they gave a report to a DL, then QRZ?-and the pileup ensued. This
all happened in about a 15 second "burst". Such is life
on the mysterious and fickle 6m band....... MIKE ve9aa

I have received several complaints over the last few weeks
regarding a couple of G stations operating in Spain this year,
specifically a G operator who took part in the UKSMG competition
last month from EA6. Spain is not party to 6m CEPT agreements and
Spanish operators themselves are only allowed to operate on the
band with hard fought for permits. Operation in Spanish
territories using the calls such as EAx/Gy on 6m is seen as
clearly illegal by Spanish operators who have complained loudly
and persistantly to anyone who will listen. They see such
operations as a major hinderence in getting less onerous
licencing conditions in their countries. I still hear stories of
'notorious' operations from ten years ago; certainly callsigns
and reputations are remembered for a long time in the 6m world!
It is clear that QSL cards from such operations will not be
accepted by the RSGB or ARRL for award purposes. I would advise
anyone thinking of going on holiday to Spain or France (where a
similar situation exists) and thinking of taking their 6m
equipment to think carefully about the consequences of their
actions before doing so.

Hello, I can today say more about the reasons that prohibit
the use of the (broadcasting!) 50MHz band for ham purposes on
this french isle: There are still 2 TV transmitters, in the two
main towns of the island: - Ajaccio (JN41JS), Channel L4, video
63,.5MHz (+ 20/12 line offset), sound 57.25MHz (AM - its the
plague, but...), 8kW EIRP. - Bastia (JN42QQ), Channel L2, video
55.75MHz, sound 49.25MHz (AM), 17kW EIRP. They are both
transmitting ideo-encripted commercial 'Canal +' programme. The
use of the Band 1 for TV transmission is the low-cost choice in
this mountaineous area... If you want to activate this
isle, maybe the only way is to give every corsican home a Sat
equipment, HI. Or wait till enough UHF repeaters are operational
