Large auroral display seen from aircraft last night at 1200 pm enroute to ANC airport. CME event no doubt. No chance of getting antenna up at present as it is colder outside than inside the freezer. Minus 20F or Minus 28 C take your pick. I can scratch the ice off the lower window cell inside. The coax is brittle and the 6M and 10M beams too cold to touch. KL7JF reports AU to Yellow Knife VE8 but no one on. We will now start to assess propagation into KL7 if it exists in this cold hi! A Happy New Year to everyone from Wasilla AK. Mark mail for my attention but only items pertaining to the AGM and UKSMG thanks not propagation reports. Happy Xmas to all my UKSMG colleagues and I hope to be able to provide you with a new country KL7, wouldn't that be a New Years Gift. We have packed and unpacked the gear fifty times and have it down to $1000 excess baggage. Just joking. The last painful thing I have done is lower the M2 11 el yagi to rest. God that thing is big close to the ground. Last DX heard Sob Sob was a baseball game from KVZK TV on 59.750 FM full sound full queting 4500 kM away. Where are all the KH8's, 5W1,s ZK1,s 3D2's that would be available. If 5kw fm sound can go 4500 kM on 59 Mhz can you imagine where a 1kw signal pointed at VK on 50 Mhz would end up. Thats the breaks. The 50.2 local 50.110 international attempt by several VK2 amateurs including VK2BA seems to be working although a few die hards are still reticent about moving away from 50.110. Maybe the New Years Resolution is to be gentlemen and be seen to be gentlemen in both our dealings with each other, the rare dx and the non conformists.................... And you can fend for yourself if it is a 9Y4 long path Hi!!!! 73 and see you on the magic band, if I can get the rotor to work in the cold BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!! VK3OT/KL7 I think all this has finally got to me see ya!!!!!!!!

Happy Xmas everyone and please take note of the email address I will use from march 1st 1998. You could try John.Koutsky@MSB.Mat-Su.k12.ak.us for urgent news about Sandown changes attention my wife Shirely Gregory after January 1st. The drop in the SF is not unexpected and it comes with the territory, we have to have a respite, to relaz and lick the wounds. So far this cycle as small as it is V73, YJ8, KH8 worked. FO8, 7J6, 3D2, FK8, KH6 heard. All areas of JA worked and 200 QSO's made with that country and it hasnt even really started. Lokks like we are on target for Europe next year, you just have to convince most of the VK's that. See you all at the UKSMG bash in Feb along with my friends and allies on 6M. Hope to give you all a good shot at KL7 on 6 and other bands. Stay tuned for developments on station readiness, but hopefully should have a bit of grunt with pa and antenna. Happy New Year from Steve VK3SIX//KL7 from 30/12/97 Dont forget phone is 907 373 5435 QSL is via VK3OT at this stage. Grid is BP51 or BP53 not too sure, will measure it with GPS when I get there, Wasilla AK.

Bob ZL4AAA has not been heard. I have his phone and fax numbers if required. I had a long conversation on 50 Mhz with ZL2KT who tells me the inclusion of an ex Channel 0 tlater into Auckland on Channel 1 has decomated activity from that region. There have only been one or two ZLs worked, the majority being ZL3. ZL2KT and ZL4TBN being the others. ZL3ADT is EME capable I think. QRV from KL7 in 3 weeks. Bil AH8A was rousted up from 14.15 after we had 59.750 KVZK-TV in at 59 plus. Worked at 0330z in VK and V73. Countries active FK8, ZL, YJ8, KH8, V73, JA. Also heard KHON TV video on 55.2390+ and another offset non ZL. The VK3OT/KL7 activity has been boosted by the discovery a few hundred yards from my qth of a stockpile of long yagis from KLM ex the USAF radar installations. Steve Tolley KL7AF runs a pretty good station from Wasilla with which we might be able to work over the pole. This is the only medium on which I will be posting news, as the news has been rejected by many EU stations who just dont believe it is time to work VK yet, hoping that their salvation will be the 46 Mhz video.

DL - VK ??? Sunday 7/12 0800, 48.2604 and 48.2396 video copied. Weak but there. VK8RAS 559 at time, so was Es extension into VK3. Either DL or perhaps Malaysian. Can anyone confirm. Malay bearing is same as DL here (305) 48.2396 maybe Malay, but I list 48.2604 as 100kW ARD in DL with nothing else within 2kHz. Multiple 49.750 video also copies at same time. VK3-DL window abt 0818-1140 during cycle 22.

0200z Station ID C...K TV Channel 2. 59.750 FM sound. Music, dancing, shouting, foreign langauge. Severe QRM from ZL TV E3. 0230z 55.2390 weaker NTSC and 2394 E3 not ZL ZL is 55.2396 2400. Any way we are probably on a wild goose chase with this. Most of the VKs want to work interstate and clag up 50.110 so even if a rare dx station appeared they would be swamped by local working. In the event of an opening I will call on 50.100 CW and 50.125 SSB as I am told that 125 is where everyone in US is listening. Good hunting everyone. PS: Should be able to access 1 kW and 8 stacked 7 el yagis in KL7 this year.

After viewing great circle maps I am now convinced that the TV video being received here is orginating from East Coast of the North American continent. The offset is a shade low of 2500 on 2498 or 2499 diurnal drift. The bad news and good news about KL7. The bad news is I have another ham 1000 metres from me also on 6M. The good news is he runs high power intends to put up 8 7 el yagis and he has offered to cooperate. You read it here, as we cant seem to get anything published on the Internet New page. The A2 TV on beam headings of 210 to 240 degrees appears to be originating from West Africa. Does anyone know if any nation uses the US standard in that region? 55.2498 NTSC 55.2500 EIA 55.2390+ NTSC 210 degrees to 240 degrees from 0500z to as late as 0900z over polar path and up centre of Atlantic. If it is going antipodal then it crosses the US East Coast. I will not publish any more of this information unless I get a positive response from someone. Steve VK3OT

To Neil. The 706 mark 2 is better out of band than even the FT650, I have logged hundreds of outlets including the following in the past hour. 55.2498 A2-TV long path from at least the US coast via 240 degrees with pronounced 60 hz sawtooth buzz. Also 55.2390+ offset 539. 55.2498 was up to 40 db over 9 and I taped at least an hour of it. It was an active carrier ie. it has live video on it. The IC706 is a brilliant piece of snopping equipment and portable as well. Can anyone help with the long path QSO attempt???

Graham, no e-mail from you. Still hoping you can find the tape with "our" 2way FM QSO on it!? Apologies regarding current activity. No HF at present. Will have FT920 and an Icom 706 II in the shack end of Feb. Currently putting up ant's for a few more bands. 17/30m vertical next up + a tower top inverted V for 12m... Spending 3 weeks over xmas/new year in The Gambia (C5), so catch you on HF in the New Year. Cheers

I cant believe VK's are being told to pull their heads in and not report the EU 48 Mhz TV. If you wait for 46.240 and 46.172 reports before trying to work VK you are sadly ignoring the other 4/5 of a million square kilometer country where there are no Channel 0 transmitters. VK8GF/VK5NC/VK1RX/VK2QF and VK3OT all had 48.250 plus/minus tonight and all called on their own volition tonight. We all cant be that stupid!!!

Packing fort KL7. It would appear there could be a chance to work down into the Pacific in January and Feb 1998. Gear so far is ICOM706 Mark 2, (Brilliant rig) every bit as good and sensitive as the EME rig here, that's why W6JKV uses one on 6 and 2M EME. Could hear 49 TV every bit as good as FT650 and TS670S. Antenna will be N5JHV special courtesy of Mike Stahl. Much smaller suitcase needed to move gear. Note this and dont use until AFTER 1/1/98 Please. Grid BP51. Beacon VK3SIX/KL7 50.0535 Mhz.
