For Mike. I had the same problem when I got my HF ticket - didn't have room for a beam plus HF antenna so tried tuning the CC R5 using the antenna tuner on my TS570S (For the Brits: replacement for the TS690, been out in the states since Feb/Mar but still not out in UK ?) and it works well. Can't give you a dB comparison to a 3 el Yagi but even as a compromise it's better than not being on the bands at all !! I think the R5 has a slightly larger tuneable bandwidth than the R7000 - besides, who needs 40m and 80m etc ???

Mike, Diamond do an all band vertical covering 80-6m. It is available in the UK at £229.95 so should be about the same in US$ (as we always get robbed on antenna prices over here). I also think MFJ do somethink similar? Why not go for a 5/8 6m mobile whip on a mag mount, that would work as well as anything else in your circumstances? While I am on here if anyone wants to get rid of the driven element from their 10/15/20m beam, I'm looking for a rotatable dipole for the tower. Offers please! UK prices new, suggest about £180 for such an item, whey out of my present budget.

********I D E A S******reports wanted************ Anyone ever used an R7000 (or similar HF antenna) on 6m? Anyone ever had any experience using an antenna tuner and an HF multiband vertical on 6m? I am moving in a week and at the new place can only erect a single (small-skinny) antenna. Not wanting to lose all my HF capabilties, I thought maybe just using the CC R7000 and using a tuner might fit the bill for (strong) Es openings. I know it can be done, but am wondering how much I'll suffer as compared to maybe a 3 el @ 25' or similar. (I am fishing for comparison reports. IE: "g3wos was s9 on my beam, and s1 on the r7000", etc.) Before anyone suggests a 3el, or any kind of beam-it won't be allowed. No towers, beams, quads, loops, zepps, dipoles or anything. Luckily I will only be at the new place from Mon-Friday, attending college, and will drive home on weekends..... Ideas?..... I did try a single 6m horizontal maltese quad loop at the top of the r7000, and although there was no electrical contact, it's effect on the HF antenna were quite detrimental. Mike/ve9aa/fn65rr...........soon fn76??

Gday to all, on 6-aug-97 at 0745 to 0845 ihad S9 signal from T.V. Video on 57.250 from PORT PIRIE in VK5 at a distance of about 2000km and the VK5VF beacon was in at up to 559 from Adelaide. I called for about 1 hour on CW with no response. Looked like Es and fairly solid at that. I admit here and now that i called on 50.110 in the hope that people were listening, but they were not. Also further to my last message, i looked closely at the qsl from 2E1fcg and it looks like he was talking about 934 mhz in the u.k. WHAT is 934 mhz in the U.K>????. anyway i still have my six metre rig on at ALL times looking for YOU!!. Cheers Graham VK6RO/VK6SIX OF77XX.

Hi SIX-folks, I'm looking for Your PC-based 6m-log. I'll try to compile a callsign/locator-database worldwide. First steps were made and the current list has 1500+ entries. Data-format should be ASCII-text or dBase-compatible (EXCEL, LOTUS, ACCESS,...). The list will be published soon via packet-radio and WWW. Thanks a lot! 73, Max.

Yesterday evening, august 2nd, starting at 18.00 UTC we had a long opening to EA, CT, 9H, IS0 wich lasted for almost 3 hours! EA7KW was 59+20 most of the time and at one time we even suspected there was some tropo involved in the path between us, what I can tell for sure there was no tropo on 9H - 4X line whatsoever. During the same time broadcast signals on 65-73MHz were in russian and afterwards from YO wich were much stronger and lasted almost 'till the end of the event. Anyway, no Es on 2 meters were noticed. No other stations were heared, only a SV1 and YU very strong and for a brief period. We'll keep looking today for some more activity from EA and maybe more stations wil turn their antennas to east. 73's de 4Z5JA (KM72LT)

Hello ! August 1th we had an opening between SM3 and VE8  at 21.45 UTC. SM3EQY heard the beacon VE8BY and alerted the other operaters in the area, and he also called Larry VE8HL by phone. That made a QSO possible at 21.54 between SM3EQY  and VE8HL, my own tryes didn`t lead to a QSO. At 22.00 we start bearing JW7SIX with 59 signals and LA7SIX with 59+++ LA7XDA IN KP19 and LA5TFA/P in KP09 was worked by a lot of nordic amateurs. 73 de Staffan SM3JGG
